# Introduction

> Rollup indexes a person's camera roll on their iPhone, so your app can search it and ask about their life.

The Rollup SDK is a Swift package for iOS apps. With the person's Photos permission, it builds an index of their camera roll on their iPhone and keeps it up to date. Your app can then:

* **Search** the index on the device with a natural-language query, such as "ramen in Tokyo last spring".
* **Ask a question** about the person's life with `query`, such as "Where do I eat most?".
* **Fill a profile** with `profile`: you pass a JSON Schema, and Rollup fills it from the person's life, with the photos behind each field.

## How it works

<Steps>
  <Step title="Index on the iPhone">
    The SDK reads small previews of the person's photos, screenshots and videos and derives what they show, where and when they were taken, which places they visited, and the text in them. Photos never leave the iPhone.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search on the iPhone">
    `search` runs entirely on the device against that index.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Query and profile with an agent">
    `query` and `profile` run an agent whose model is on Rollup's server. Every tool the agent calls runs on the iPhone, against the person's own index. Only the text results of those tools (dates, places, labels and text read from images) are sent to the server.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Results return to your app">
    Answers and profiles come back to your app on the device. Rollup does not send them anywhere else, and it does not store questions, schemas, answers or profiles.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  The SDK runs on a real iPhone with iOS 26 or later. The iOS Simulator is not supported: Apple Vision analysis does not run there, so the SDK throws `simulatorUnsupported`.
</Note>

## What you need

* An approved Rollup developer account and an approved app, from the [developer dashboard](https://www.tryrollup.com/developers).
* An iPhone with iOS 26 or later.
* An iOS app with the App Attest capability.
